Walk-Through Metal Detectors Can Be Portable
Most people are familiar with the type of metal detectors that airports use in screening passengers before flights. If you’ve traveled much, you’ve probably noticed that there is a lot of variety in types of walk-through metal detectors, and some look much more complex and permanent than others. In the past, we used to only see metal detectors at prisons, military installations, and airports. Today, they are in use at schools, workplaces, sporting events, concerts, and other large-scale buildings and events.
Unfortunately, if you’re planning an event or operate a large venue nowadays, you have to ensure that interpersonal conflict, weapons, and any kind of violence are avoided at all costs. A strong event security program is a non-negotiable—including walk-through and hand-held metal detectors used by security professionals trained and equipped to isolate any threat quickly and keep the situation under control with minimal disturbance. Did you know that rather than invest in the technology and staff yourself, you can rely on Graves-Wiley to provide our top-quality, reliable metal detectors…anywhere in the world?
We recently were retained to provide security for a “Town Hall” event for which Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum was the news personality. Because protestors were expected to be present at the event, it was critical that the security detail was on point. Kerry Graves served as the team leader for an eight-agent detail, all of whom were prepared for the unexpected. All agents were placed to observe individuals going through the metal detectors, and maintain positions to act swiftly if anything egregious occurred.
We have effective, well-maintained walk-through and hand-held metal detectors that help our clients ensure the peace at large venues and events. Because the technology we use is portable, we can deploy our event security solutions anywhere they’re needed.
Whether you’re hosting a one-day special event or need site security for your workplace, Graves-Wiley will design a realistic plan for keeping your event trouble-free, then staff your event with expert security professionals equipped with the latest security technologies. HOW METAL DETECTORS WORK
Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the telephone, designed what was probably the first metal detector in 1881 to try to find a bullet lodged inside US President James Garfield after his shooting. The device worked, but the bullet was never found and the President later died. Portable metal detectors were invented by a German engineer named Gerhard Fischer; his company, Fisher Research Laboratory, is still a metal detector manufacturer today.
The simplest explanation of how metal detectors work is this: the device puts out a magnetic field, which generates an opposing magnetic current when it moves across metal. The principle behind metal detection is the same whether you’re using a hand-held metal detector to search for coins on the beach or walking through an airport metal detector.
